Updated November 2026

Short answer: at a professional studio in Bali, small tattoos start from about USD 59, and detailed pieces of 13–32 cm in our recent quotes range from USD 200 to USD 620. The exact price depends on size, placement and detail, and a good studio confirms it with you before you book. The prices below are The Wishink Well’s own (Kuta, Bali), in US dollars.

What changes the price of a tattoo in Bali

  • Size. Measure height and width in centimetres. Doubling the size usually more than doubles the time.
  • Detail and shading. Simple linework is quickest; realism, portraits and smooth shading take the longest.
  • Placement. Ribs, hands, feet, neck and spine are harder to tattoo and can cost more than the outer arm or thigh.
  • Colour. Full colour takes longer than black and grey.
  • Custom design. A fully custom drawing can add design time; bringing a clear reference keeps it simple.
  • Sessions. Large pieces and sleeves are split over several sessions, often a few days apart.

Is it cheaper to get a tattoo in Bali?

For many travellers from Australia, Europe and North America, a tattoo in Bali costs noticeably less than the same piece at home, which is one reason Bali is popular for holiday tattoos. Be careful with prices that seem too low: the cheapest stalls are where hygiene problems happen. Read our Bali tattoo safety checklist before you choose a studio.

Deposits, payment and currency

  • Deposit: most studios ask for a deposit to hold your date. At The Wishink Well it is 50% of the agreed price; see our booking policy.
  • Currency: prices are often quoted in US dollars or Indonesian rupiah (IDR). Always check which currency a quote is in.
  • Payment: cash in IDR, card or bank transfer are common. Ask whether card payments carry a fee.
  • Tips: optional, but appreciated if you are happy with the work.

How to get an accurate quote before you fly

Send the studio three things: a reference image, an approximate size in centimetres with the placement, and your travel dates. That is enough for a reliable quote and a booking slot. Our guide on what to send for a tattoo quote explains it step by step.

Until 31 December 2026 we offer 30% off every tattoo style and size as a grand opening offer (tattoo by 31 March 2027).

Frequently asked questions

How much does a small tattoo cost in Bali?

At a professional studio, small tattoos usually start from about USD 59. At The Wishink Well in Kuta, the studio minimum is USD 59; detail and placement can raise the price.

How much is a tattoo sleeve in Bali?

A sleeve is quoted per project because it takes several sessions. Expect a multi-day plan; send your idea, arm size and travel dates for a quote.

Do Bali tattoo studios charge by the hour?

Many quote per piece rather than per hour, so you know the total before you start. Large multi-session work may be priced per session.

Is it cheaper to get a tattoo in Bali than in Australia?

Often yes, but compare like for like: choose a hygienic studio with a strong portfolio rather than the lowest price.
